Good Measure Full to overflowing
If we are at a place where over the weeks we have hungered and we have sensed God filling our thoughts more repeatedly and sensed His presence more frequently we may also be sensing a filling of His presence.
Overflowing doesn’t start at the top. It starts at the bottom, at the lowest place and rises.
The more that it fills up the closer to the top and potential of overflowing there is.
We have to allow God to first come into those low deep places and from that place to fill us with Him and His power.
Sometimes to allow Him time to fill slowly sometimes to submit to the abandonment of fast flowing outpouring.
Both ways are as a result of what we allow and say ‘ yes ‘ to.
The outpouring of and overflowing however are like the rupturing of the uterus and Joy of birth. Lavished love upon us.
Or of the old wine skin Splitting and the outpouring of the contents as we come to the end of ourselves and allow God to drench us in His love.
The emptying of the old self and the filling of the new
There is a constant flow of giving, emptying and being refilled to overflowing. Good measure, pressed down and filled again we can never out give God’s generous measures. Words that always bring Colin Urquhart to mind as he quotes them so frequently.
We are called to the banquet, laden table to feast not to be begging the scraps from under the table. We are served the best wine.
There is no compromise, we come with expectation and we receive in abundance.
It is like we are invited to step in and partake of something amazing. All are invited, it just needs our ‘yes’ no other requisite.
The illustration is the wine glass, us, with whatever Faith we have in the bottom being stirred up to overflowing by the outpouring of New Wine from Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The overflowing from our top glass being caught by others to fill and overflow from them too.
Two scripture verses that come to mind:
“give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.””Luke 6:38 ESV
“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”2 Corinthians 9:6 ESV
