“For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,”
We are moving always on a journey that is taking us from a weight of sin towards the weight of Glory to come.
It is as if the pressure and constriction of the birth canal has to be endured to the birthing of spacious with no boundaries and joy.
From the kingdom of the world to the birthing of heaven on earth. The answer to the prayer “Your kingdom come”.
What present themselves as dilemmas on earth in the here and now are being prepared for a heavenly solution.
Indeed there seem to be many aspects that have gone beyond appearing to being able to be resolved except by God!
We are citizens here but, as citizens of heaven, His kingdom, that should for us outweigh and trump any other allegiance.
Our own preferences may be in danger of filtering God’s will and in such cases need laying and burning as a sacrifice upon the alter.
God wants nothing of ours birthed from a rebellious spirit or mindset. Only our submission to what we know to be birthed from Him and therefore in alignment with the Holy Spirit.
It may be that God actually withholds the solution, sowing the seeds to grow amidst chaos which is breaking out, until the harvest will be what He decrees.
There is need always of a healthy fear of the Lord and His will. That will be the foundation of wisdom.
That is what may take a new level of surrender. We then become the wisdom of God on the earth. The image of Christ.
Success to God is measured in our ability to become more Christ like.
A level of Christ likeness is what God seeks for His miraculous mysteries on the earth, the signs and wonders that revive the faith of the world.
Where it becomes obvious that it is only God who can resolve and be the answer for all issues.
In the interim it may feel like we are provoked with opposition and irritation until we are brought back to our knees.
Just as the irritation forms the greatest Pearl in the natural so may God use this to provoke our consumption in Him and His will.
It comes at a cost.
The cost may be to remove pride. To wrestle between the flesh and the spirit. To taste the bitter sweet of the scroll. To get totally over ourselves. To get rid of rebellion our own opinions. To have to eat the solid meat and not the easier milk.
To fix our eyes only on the glory of the Lord regardless of the cost will be rewarded with joy.
The illustration shows us on our knees with prayer and need of God in the same intensity as Jesus at Gethsemane. The loving God bent close to listen and bestow love. The light of that intimacy and submission pushing back the darkness.
Three Scriptures that come to mind:
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,”Hebrews 12:1 ESV
“For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,”2 Corinthians 4:17 ESV
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.”Matthew 13:45-46 ESV
