“Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.”
How interesting that those who were the closest to Jesus and who saw Him doing many miracles and were watching Him cosseted His prayer life above His other wonders.
They discerned that it was different from prayer they witnessed in the synagogues. They discerned that it was a relational communicate He had with God. They discerned that it was His source of power.
They witness when Jesus took Himself off. They witnessed how He was when He returned. They witnessed the difference between the reverence and importance He put upon this private time.
They were impacted by the Holiness of the habit. They sensed the importance and significance.
Prayer is significant in our relationship, worship and revelation.
In scripture there is a connection to the aroma and the atmosphere that can be changed by our words.
“For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering. For my name will be great among the nations, says the Lord of hosts.”
The offering that prayer can be, the petitioning, the intercession, the decreeing and the thanksgiving.
The sense that everyone is heard, has significance and kept in heaven for it’s time of being answered.
“And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.”
The holy significance of there being a reciprocal, mutual joy in the activity of praying and that it has such significance and importance that it merits having a house of prayer.
“these I will bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.”
There is a sense of prayer being a powerful weapon and that there is a deep urgency that we are participators by our co-labouring and interceding in the outcome of the spiritual warfare pervading the world.
God is sovereign but He has chosen that we are part of His plan.
The power that our corporate prayers have on outcomes of releasing angels and responses from heaven and equally deliverance and quelling activity from the enemy.
Prayers are power filled.
“If they are prophets, and if the word of the Lord is with them, then let them intercede with the Lord of hosts, that the vessels that are left in the house of the Lord, in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem may not go to Babylon.”
We, like those early disciples, can be directed in our prayer by asking Christ for how to pray and by allowing His mindset and heart to invade us as the Holy Spirit enables us to pray in the spirit.
“His will be done.”
