BREAKOUT POSITIVE THOUGHTS. 469 ( Less is Greater, Greater is less .)

“The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares the Lord of hosts.”

God’s house and His people in it are His prime concern.

When we sense that God has shown us that what we have is not good enough we are in the place to listen and to seek hope.

In the OT in the natural and Symbolically the temple Solomon built was blessed and worthy of God. Glory filled but it was destroyed and lay in ruins.

The living bible points us today to the small book of Haggai and the words spoken by the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel and Joshua which speaks a relevance into our position right now.

In the first chapter we see people more obsessed with self resourcing and providing than God.

“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies ‘in ruins? You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes.”

God’s desire for His house to be worthy of Him and His chosen and His blessed people to be obedient to His ways caused Him to rebuke their choices.

“You looked for much, and behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? declares the Lord of hosts. Because of my house that lies in ruins, while each of you busies himself with his own house.”

Today we are in a place of tension as we realise the ruins that surround us and we acknowledge errors in judgement and choices have built something that needs reformation.

Our own preferences have filtered what we thought we heard God say and we have used our own resources and provisions instead of listening and relying solely on His.

Some of the things that cause tension and opposition God uses as opportunity.

As we try to protect the old the new can appear as a threat. We may attempt to reject a present blessing and feel discontent whereas He wants our participation and partnering. To fear the Lord.

“Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him. And the people feared the Lord.”

His promise is that we move from glory to glory. What we thought once looked like glory we have to let go of to receive the new.

‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How do you see it now? Is it not as nothing in your eyes?”

It becomes increasingly clear that God’s way forward may not fit our narrative or understanding and that it is we who need to realign to Him and to rely only upon His lead, His provision and His resources and not to be fearful.

“Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, declares the Lord. Be strong, O Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land, declares the Lord. Work, for I am with you, declares the Lord of hosts, according to the covenant that I made with you when you came out of Egypt. My Spirit remains in your midst. Fear not.”

We are called to faith and to modify our expectation. A whole people who waited in expectation for a Messiah to come missed His coming as they clung on to their own understanding of who they thought Jesus would be. They did not let go to receive Him.

“The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares the Lord of hosts.’”

We cannot choose our own blessings and favour and how and when we shall receive them.

God works for the good in all things and we have been called according to His purpose. He placed His seal of Jesus upon that end our obedience to Him and His Holy Spirit.

“and to overthrow the throne of kingdoms. I am about to destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations, and overthrow the chariots and their riders. And the horses and their riders shall go down, every one by the sword of his brother. On that day, declares the Lord of hosts, I will take you, O Zerubbabel my servant, the son of Shealtiel, declares the Lord, and make you like a signet ring, for I have chosen you, declares the Lord of hosts.”

The illustration shows Christ’s face emanating light that pushes back the darkness and our proximity listening for every word.

Eight Scriptures that come to mind:

“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins? You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm.
