BREAKOUT POSITIVE THOUGHTS. 543 . ( Less is Greater, Greater is less .)

“and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.”

The Holy Spirit will convict us of sin and righteousness.

“And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:”

Our hearts have to be ripped open to expose all that is concealed within them.

It is only when sin is revealed to Christ and man that we can truly become liberated because as we repent we are cleansed and given a new heart and spirit.

“Repent and turn from all your transgressions, lest iniquity be your ruin. Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! “

Scripturally it was a tradition to rend, rip, open garments as an outward sign of sorrow and repentance. This outward ritual did not however expose the inner reason.

There is pain in exposing, opening up the heart to reveal the core of the sin. However, there is much written in scripture to reassure us that Christ comes even closer to the broken hearted.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

That rather than despising the condition our contrite, sorrow, is like our sacrifice to Him and induces even more love.

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.”

Our trust is in Him renewing and restoring a clean heart. A restoration of our joy and freedom. Our heart becomes a new wine skin to contain His wine.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”

Holiness, goodness has to come from the inside it is of no good to be whitewashed to look good from the outside if the inside is dark, dingy and ugly.

The other recollection of rending top to bottom to reveal was when the veil, curtain, of the temple and skies were rended top to bottom to expose God to man at the crucifixion. Prior to our hearts becoming His temple.

“And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.”

We are moved by the Holy Spirit to open up what we have closed down and hidden within us. We are called to encourage others to also become open to whatever shuts them down.

In so doing we get rid of the toxic leaven within us that Jesus warned His followers of.

“Jesus said to them, “Watch and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

The hypocrisy that they tried to hide He said would be revealed and not remain hidden.

“Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.”

Better to be convicted and rid of what is offensive that we have partnered with now than to harbour it in preference of pride or being stiff necked and unyielding.

It is not for us to convict, it is only for the Holy Spirit to shine His light and blow His wind over.

The illustration shows the heart rended from top to bottom to expose the sin, looking like globs of lard, to be removed. The light emanating from a repentant, cleansed heart, ready to be home to Christ, pushing back the darkness.
