Being on fire for Jesus!
Jesus is the solution.
Pentecost is celebrated this weekend.
The disciples locked down in the Upper room had been awaiting the advocate that Jesus had promised them .
They were afraid of being killed by the authorities and so were in hiding in Jerusalem which was full of people from many other places.
This was God’s timing and early morning, not yet 9.30am, He sent his Holy Spirit as a Mighty Wind roaring and as Fire to those waiters in the Upper Room.
Flames which alighted on each of the disciples heads emboldening them with power and they all began speaking in many languages.
Totally fearlessly they erupted out of the upper room and into the streets. The amazed onlookers not only saw but heard them praising God in their own languages.
When the crowd accused them of being drunk Peter boldly denied this and preached to them for the first time with such boldness and authority that 3,000 also became followers.
Daily thousands were added to their numbers all being enabled by the Holy Spirit to return later to their own countries and travel and spread the Gospels.
The Church and Christianity had been birthed.
I get a sense that God in this coronavirus lockdown has been preparing us for a new time for our Church to burst forth and move forwards now in a different way.
Many more people are seeking.
Many more people are praying.
Many more people and generations are accessing church and faith on line and finding a more current and meaningful mode for this century to relate to.
Many more people have been moved to action, empathy, compassion and entered in to church initiations to help the sick, the needy, the poor, the elderly, the marginalised.
Oneness, togetherness cemented in love.
Jesus is the solution
Perhaps this time it will be the Spirit as rain and tears cleansing us and our nations.
The illustration of people praising and worshipping and being on fire for Jesus.
The spectrum representing the Holy Spirit.
Fire purifies and cleanses.
Fire spreads and is all consuming.
Two scriptures that come to mind are:
“John said, “I am just baptizing with water. But someone more powerful is going to come, and I am not good enough even to untie his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.”Luke 3:16 CEV
“Suddenly there was a noise from heaven like the sound of a mighty wind! It filled the house where they were meeting. Then they saw what looked like fiery tongues moving in all directions, and a tongue came and settled on each person there. The Holy Spirit took control of everyone, and they began speaking whatever languages the Spirit let them speak.”Acts 2:2-4 CEV
